ugh… why do people think that “religious freedom” means being able to force your religion down other people’s throats (to the point of physically harming them?)??

Japan:: Sapporo, Christmas Day
On Christmas morning we exchanged a couple gifts and then went to the Sapporo beer museum. The hostel owners told us about a free shuttle we could use (they were so nice). The museum is in the original brewery, which is a really cool old brick building. The employees thankfully gave us a booklet explaining the exhibits in English. At the end of the museum there is a hall for beer tasting....

This is very interesting to listen to. Usually I hear mixtures of Chinese-English and Filipino-English. It’s sort of like listening to the radio when it’s mostly static and you can only hear a few words, and you have to guess what the whole conversation is about.
Japan Day 1- Sapporo, Christmas Eve
On Friday evening, I had to fight people to get out of work on time. I dropped off our turtle, Stamford, at the dormitory so Katrina could babysit him, and then I literally had to walk through a flood (about 6-8 inches of water) to get to the bus stop. It was gross, and I couldn’t wait to get out of SG to some place with a more festive feeling.
At home we hurriedly finished packing- a...

Reason #87 why Singapore sucks:
digging out a piece of clothing you haven’t worn for a while, and it’s MOLDY. ugh.
It’s so unbelievably pleasant out today I can’t get over it. It’s that perfect room temperature (my computer says 79 F, but it doesn’t feel that hot) that you only get a few precious days of in Virginia. No aircon today, hanging out in the living room and all the windows are open. It’s because it’s been overcast all day so the sun hasn’t had a change...
Today I tried a battered, deep-fried mars bar for the first time. It was hot and melty and sinful.
Seriously, why aren’t Brits fatter than Americans? You don’t need to fry everything!
Also, hooray for the overturning of prop 8! Glad to have some good news coming out of the US.
Some of the most kind, generous people I have ever known I have met while living in Singapore. I am very grateful for them.

Japan tickets have been bought. Flying in to Sapporo, out from Kyoto, forcing us to go to at least two cities and take a long train ride in between. Now I’m kinda freaking out because I’ve never planned anything of this magnitude before. Ack!!! At least I know I have 3 months to plan and Mauricio’s Lonely Planet travel guide to help me out.

My awesome weekend
I am planning a trip to Japan. Bwah ha ha! It will be the most worthwhile thing we do in Asia, and hopefully it will improve Chris’ mood. I am goaling for December 24th through January 6th (Christmas in Japan!!!!! :D ) and now I just have to get my leave application approved and then I will buy tickets!!! and then I will try to find an available hostel!!! And then we will have to buy or...

I get a lot of weird medical advice here: “Don’t lift heavy things or your womb will drop. Then it will be harder to have babies.”

Singapore part 3
Our flight back to Singapore suuucked. The first part of the trip, the longer part, took even longer than usual- 13 hours. We had two inside seats and there was a man to my right and I always felt bad asking him to get up. I watched a few movies including Rio and What Happens In Vegas (both better than I expected) and read two magazines. In Japan we walked around and ate rice balls as usual, and I...
Less than a week left in the US. :(
Things I am sad about:
-leaving my friends
-not knowing what my new job position will be like
-dreading the humidity
Things I am actually looking forward to in SG:
-my coworker friends
-really good iced coffee
-my independence
-back to school shenanigans at NYU

Portland, ME is a really cute little city!
The historic Port district sorta reminds me of Shockoe Bottom in Richmond. Neat shops, interesting architecture, creative restaurants, cobblestone streets. Its a bit hilly and there are interesting wide alleyways with restaurants in them. There are a lot of good street performers and some tiny parks. I would enjoy spending time there and eating “Portland’s largest lobster roll”...
leaving for Maine in a few hours!
Gonna get me some lobstah.
