The rest of John's visit- having fun →
Seems like Chinatown is the place to be. John had a great 3 day whirlwind tour of Singapore- we did a little bit of everything! Nature, walking, eating, exploring, partying. Whew!

We brought John to the Jurong Bird Park →
It rained all day (and we only brought one umbrella) so we gave in and purchased umbrellas and ponchos so we could enjoy the park more. I think it is an excellent zoo, it has a great variety of exhibits and we got to be very close to many types of birds! Penguins, flamingos, cranes, parrots, birds of prey, birds of Southeast Asia, lories, owls, ostriches, and more. Beautiful!
Monday the 24th- finally saw a monitor lizard! →
This weekend is going to be great!
SO, I was really sad that I couldn’t go to Vietnam to visit John like I originally wanted to- the ticket prices tripled and Chris had a limited timeframe in which he could go because of school- BUT something almost as good is happening: John is coming to visit ME!!! On Thursday! And since now it’s technically Wednesday that means he’s coming Tomorrow!!!!!
We iz gonna have so...

There was a girl in Narita airport with a bag that said:

Man I love Japan.
Soooo I'm leaving
Tomorrow at 12:20. Dreading that horrible plane ride…. but not dreading being back so much anymore. I think 5 weeks of winter is good enough. Plus I’m excited to take lots of pictures with my wonderful new Olympus Pen, swim and hopefully start playing tennis, and do my own grocery shopping!
So (540)846-6757 will not be my phone number any more, it’s Skype for now and...
One more day in the states. Feeling pretty bummed, but looking forward to having a regular rhythm of life again.
Nearing the end of my weird long semi-vacation. The way my life is being divide up into these very distinct segments is making me feel like the US and Singapore are almost alternate realities or something… Leaving one place and going to another where the pace and processes of living are quite different… it’s still very surreal. I just have to not think about how miserable the...
It's funny how
in Singapore I was really craving sweaters, boots, scarves, and other cosy things, but now I would really love to be able to just slip on some flip flops and go. Dressing in the winter requires so much forethought (also I just get bored easily). Right now it is 19 degrees F, ack!
Things I can't get used to here
1. It’s SO DARK
2. lack of public transportation = helpless/trapped feeling
3. Huge portion sizes. I have yet to finish a restaurant meal.

I got my bachelor’s degree, got married, lost a grandparent, moved to the other side of the earth, got a job an then lost it. Can I have a break now?
